  • Overview
  • Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the finance department provides accounting, budgeting, and procurement services to support the mission of The New York Public Library.

As a Library Page, General Accounting at The New York Public Library you will be expected to provide operational support to the general accounting department. Various duties will include general office work, assisting with the preparation and upload of journal entries and revenue transactions, as well as special projects as needed. We are looking for candidates that demonstrate a strong work ethic, are reliable and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. This position will allow you to gain valuable experience in the field of accounting. You will also have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship. _The library page, general accounting position is scheduled for 21 hours per week, Monday thru Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and may be subject to change._

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of a Page supervisor, the
Library Page:

+ Assists with the upload and posting of the monthly fines and fees reports to the general ledger, including posting entries. + Assists with the upload and posting of the daily Library Shop sales to the general ledger, including posting entries. + Assists with the upload and posting of donation revenue to the general ledger, including posting entries. + Assists with bank reconciliations and other routine accounting tasks. + Helps with fiscal year-end audit activities. + Maintains the filing system including sending items to storage as needed each year. + Assists with additional entries and special projects as needed.

  • Required Education, Experience & Skills
  • + High school diploma or GED + Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in accounting, finance, or economics at an accredited school + Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • + Previous experience in an office environment with an emphasis on accounting. + Previous experience with computerized accounting software.
