GENERAL:

This is a Civil Service full time position. An employee in this class performs standard bookkeeping duties in recording, reviewing, and processing financial records and documents. Work involves maintaining bookkeeping records including posting and proving; classifying accounting documents prior to posting; or preparing prescribed financial statements and reports.

Minimum Requirements:

Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work, or; Associate degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by 6 credits in accounting, or; Any equivalent combination of experience and training. Must be a resident of Pennsylvania.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices. Ability to perform detailed work with written or numerical data. Ability to prepare routine financial reports and statements. Strong organizational skills are a must. Ability to spot discrepancies and ensure precision in financial data and records. Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Post accounting data to ledgers, books, registers and journals. Prepare necessary reports. Maintain expenditure and budgetary control accounts. Audit claims in disbursing offices and process approved claims for payment. Support the development and monitoring of the departmental budget. Receive remittances and issue receipts for licenses, taxes, and other fees. Post revenues and expenses to original books of entry Reconcile bank accounts for a variety of funds. Analyze forms, correspondence, audit, and investigation reports and records to determine completeness and accuracy. All other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications:

Applicant must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement. Applicant must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Physical Requirements:

Applicant must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position in a child welfare office environment.
