$22.00/hour Adventure Science Center’s mission is to open every mind to the wonders of science and technology, fostering a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of accounting related functions, to include accounting for daily sales, accounts payable, monthly account reconciliations, journal entry processing, preparing biweekly payroll, and assisting with fixed asset depreciation schedules.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enter and reconcile daily cash deposit batches of ticket and program sales Receive, input, and manage all accounts payable invoices Prepare and process weekly AP check runs Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation Add fixed assets additions, deletions, and retirements into the asset management software Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts for month-end close in an accurate and timely manner, researching any discrepancies and recommending appropriate adjustments Assist in the preparation of ad hoc reports from accounting and ticketing software for management Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Solid understanding of basic accounting principles for nonprofit accounting Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, ability to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy Ability to foster a positive and cooperative work environment between departments Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information Project a commitment to customer service and continuous improvement to both internal and external customers Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to analyze data and solve problems Strong communication and interpersonal skills Minimum 2 years of accounting experience is required Associate/Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration is a plus Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Must be at least 18 years old The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations. Typically, walking, standing, bending and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50lbs assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity. Some repetitive motion is involved.
