Town of Signal Mountain Position Description Title:
Financial Department:

Finance Clerk Pay Grade 6

Purpose:

Employee performs all functions required to answer the proper and timely execution of accounts payables. Employee also prepares, collects and receipts taxes, and performs other clerical accounting or related work. This position is under the supervision of the Finance Director.

Job:

Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. The omissions of specific statements of duties do not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position, nor does every position allocated to the job necessarily perform every duty listed. Processes vendor invoices and issue checks for accounts payable. Posts routine journal entries. Files paid invoices, check copies and other documents. Collect and receive miscellaneous receipts such as pool passes, building permits, beer taxes, and pavilion or gym rentals. Prepare deposits and cash reports. Prepare monthly property tax reports. Serve customers at the main desk and receipt payments. Keep a variety of financial records and prepare statistical reports as needed. Answers and routes telephone calls and visitors; handles routine inquires. Prepare payroll in absence of the Payroll Clerk. Prepare and respond to Records Requests as the Public Records Request Coordinator Other duties as assigned. Equipment Computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, and other office equipment.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and application of accounting, budgeting, finance, payroll and office procedures. Knowledge of data processing equipment and accounting software. Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, town ordinances, and state and federal laws, especially those pertaining to personnel, purchasing, and payroll processing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the public, subordinates and other employees. Ability to formulate administrative and special reports.

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or the equivalent of training, education, and experience.

Experience Required:

One year.

Problem Solving Requirements:

Solve problems in situations where most problems have occurred before and their solutions are familiar.

Writing Skills Required:

Write standard documentation using established formats; document work performed, actions taken or results by writing one or two brief sentences.

Speaking/Presentation Skills Required:

Answer questions with brief response or provide standard information to customers/citizens, visitors, callers, supervisors, or other employees. Interview or discuss detailed information, frequently involving customer/citizen problems or complaints.
