Accounting Specialist Position Available In Madison, Tennessee

Description We are looking for a skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team in Jackson, Tennessee. In this Contract-to-permanent position, you will play a pivotal role in supporting payroll processing, financial reporting, and general accounting operations for a higher education institution. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the organization’s financial integrity while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Process biweekly payroll for faculty, staff, and student employees, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
• Verify and reconcile timesheets, leave balances, overtime calculations, and tax deductions.
• Prepare month-end close activities, including roll-forward calculations, payroll accruals, and detailed payroll analysis.
• Reconcile payroll accounts to the general ledger, including liabilities and quarterly tax filings.
• Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, year-end reports, and compliance documentation such as W-2s and 1095-C forms.
• Maintain accurate payroll records in adherence to federal, state, and institutional policies.
• Post journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards.
• Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis to support financial planning.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate financial recordkeeping and reporting.
• Support audit preparations by providing necessary documentation and assisting with grant accounting or restricted fund management.
