  • $65,693) Work Schedule Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM Job Location Raleigh, NC Department CALS Business Operations About the Department This position is located within the NC State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Budget Office, which is a division of the CALS Business Operations unit (CBO).

The Budget Office is managed by the Director of Budgets and Planning and reports to the Assistant Dean for Business Operations. This position reports directly to one of the CALS Budget Consultants. The budget & planning team has responsibility for fiscal financial controls and management including budget and cash management for the entire College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). This unit provides oversight and fiscal monitoring for all funds (state/federal capacity/contract & grants/trusts/foundation). Additionally, the unit works with Administration, Department Heads, Faculty, University, State, and Federal offices to manage the College’s fiscal affairs. Essential Job Duties The Budget Specialist provides budgetary and accounting support to the assigned departments and units within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. An essential component of this role is building strong relationships across CALS, within the College Business Office (CBO), and with university partners. In this role you will be involved in reviewing financial activities across various funding sources, including state, federal, trust and grants, while ensuring compliance with relevant policies. A few key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assist the Budget Consultant with budget, revenue and expense journal entries Track State and Federal projects to ensure budgets are fully utilized or maintain a positive balance by year-end Ensure correct phase numbers and account codes are used; identify and correct errors in revenue and expenditure transactions through journal vouchers Regularly monitor cash balances for specific funding types and process necessary journal entries Create and review Service Center Use Rates, eStore accounts, and Testing Service Agreements Update and prepare monthly financial reports for CALS departments and centers Manage and report on various fiscal programs, including Academic Programs, Centers, Ag Institute, Extension and Research. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Other Required Qualifications Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills. Ability to adapt to and work in a flexible/hybrid working environment. Ability to set priorities and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and Word. Five years of higher education experience in finance and/or budgeting. In-depth knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials and university accounting processes. Strong understanding of the complex rules that govern Federal capacity and State appropriated funds. Advanced working knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles.
