Position Summary We’re seeking an experienced and strategic CFO/Director of Finance to oversee and manage all financial operations of the University. This key leadership role will be responsible for budgeting, accounting, treasury, student financial aid oversight, and financial reporting. The right candidate would also supervise technology and human resources. The ideal candidate will be both hands-on and strategic, with a firm understanding of higher education finance and compliance requirements. The primary skills of daily budget management, financial responsibility and attention to details are essential with preferred experience in Higher Education. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the preparation of the University’s annual and departmental budgets.
Oversee daily operating budget activities and ensure efficient financial operations.
Supervise all accounting and financial aid functions. Prepare effective reports.
Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and deposits; maintain receipt control logs.
Prepare and present monthly and ad hoc financial reports, including cash flow and endowment updates.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax documents and federal education reports (e.g., FISAP, IPEDS, PPA).
Maintain and reconcile general ledger and student receivable accounts.
Coordinate monthly and year-end financial closings; prepare records for annual audits.
Administer employee retirement and flexible spending account (FSA) plans.
Support the Financial Aid Office in compliance, audits, and student clearances.
Liaise with external auditors and present financial updates to executive leadership and the Board of Trustees.
Supervise small but efficient staff, stay visible and open to discussion.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President or their designee.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management.
Working knowledge of federal student financial aid and higher education reporting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and database systems.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Proven ability to supervise and lead a staff, strategic thinker that respects diversity.

Preferred:

CPA or MBA, 10 years experience including supervision of personnel.
Experience in higher education or nonprofit financial administration.
Familiarity with Department of Education reporting platforms and audit standards.
