Job Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will oversee all financial operations, drive fiscal sustainability, and ensure regulatory compliance to support our mission. This role requires a dynamic leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about advancing Fahe’s cause.
The CFO serves on the Executive Leadership Team and reports to the President. This position has the authority to make decisions across the entire corporation and is responsible for the strategic positioning of the finances, liquidity, information management, investments, and available capital of Fahe. The CFO will be expected to lead financial analysis and reporting, planning and budgeting, long range forecasting, analysis related to new program development, financial accounting systems and procedures, grant and investor compliance and corporate compliance, program productivity metrics, and asset and liability and interest rate risk management for Fahe.
The CFO will oversee funds management plans, capitalization plans, liquidity management, financial and portfolio risk management plans, performance metrics for all lines of business and ongoing assessment of business lines for profitability, and projections models. This includes leveraging alternative forms of capital including the CDFI bond fund and borrowing from the Federal Home Loan Bank and investor financial institutions, access in the secondary market for loan sales, and increased competency in managing loan participation and purchased pools of assets.
The CFO will manage a team of 10 financial professionals and be required to maintain strong relationships with other senior departmental managers to optimize cross-functional efficiencies and communication in pursuit of Fahe’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy
Act as Chief Financial Officer and strategic business partner to senior executive leadership team.
Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long-term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.
Collaborate with the executive team and board of directors to provide financial insights and guide decision-making.
Lead the preparation and execution of the organization’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives and operational models.
Serve as key member of the Board’s Finance Committee. Assist in establishing committee objectives and meeting agendas and preparing information and materials for board and committee meetings.
Financial Management
Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets
Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the Chief Executive Officer, President, Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors
Develop and maintain short-term and long-term financial forecasting models that support financial planning and decision-making
Manage banking relationships and investment portfolios in line with the organization’s objectives.
Manage enterprise interest rate, enterprise and liquidity risk.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including nonprofit tax requirements.
Oversee annual financial audits and act as the primary liaison with external auditors and external rating agency.
Monitor financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
Leadership and Team Management
Work closely with the Executive Team and senior leaders to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision
Lead the Finance Committee, collaborating with committee members to provide strategic financial guidance and support to the organization
Serve as an Officer of the corporation as Treasurer.
Supervise and develop the Finance Team members, fostering professional growth and a culture of accountability.
Supervise and lead Fahe’s investment strategy to support Fahe’s lending goals.
Work collaboratively with department heads to ensure financial transparency and effective resource allocation.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
At least 8-10 years of experience in financial leadership, with nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
Expertise in nonprofit financial management, including grant funding, restricted funds, and donor relations.
Background in financial services and/or lending strongly preferred.
Proficient in financial software and tools, such as Sage and budgeting platforms.
Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with board members, donors, and team members.
