Overview:
The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Inc. is seeking a seasoned and dedicated Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its leadership team. The CFO will oversee all financial and accounting functions, contributing to the organization’s mission by managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and providing strategic guidance. This role is essential to advancing the Coalition’s mission of addressing homelessness by maintaining financial stability and maximizing resources to enhance services and programs.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission, goals, and long-term sustainability.
Manage and oversee all financial operations, including general ledger accounting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and financial analysis.
Ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness of all financial records and systems.
Maintain compliance with financial reporting standards and all regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and financial disclosures.
Prepare and present timely financial reports and analysis to the Executive Director and Board of Directors, offering strategic recommendations.
Cultivate and manage relationships with key external financial stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and financial service providers.
Budgeting and Forecasting
Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with program managers and organizational leadership to create accurate, achievable budgets.
Monitor and analyze budget performance, proactively identifying variances and trends, and provide regular updates to the Executive Director and Board.
Develop and maintain financial forecasting models to support strategic planning, scenario analysis, and long-term financial health.
Strategic Planning and Leadership
Partner with the Executive Director and senior leadership team to align financial strategies with organizational priorities and goals.
Lead the Finance Committee, ensuring alignment between financial policies and the broader strategic plan.
Provide leadership and mentorship to finance staff, promoting a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leaders to develop strategies that optimize financial resources and strengthen operations.
Board Relations and Reporting
Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board of Directors, providing transparent and accurate updates on the organization’s financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies that align with the organization’s values, compliance standards, and strategic objectives.
Represent the organization in external meetings, conferences, and events, offering financial insight and organizational representation as needed.
Tax Filing and Compliance
Oversee and ensure timely and accurate tax filings, adhering to all relevant local, state, and federal laws and nonprofit regulations.
Manage and coordinate all external audits and ensure the organization meets its financial reporting and compliance obligations.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA strongly preferred.
At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, including a minimum of 5 years in nonprofit accounting.
Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within accounting or finance (Required).
Proven experience with Express or Sage accounting software (minimum 5 years required).
Demonstrated success in financial management, including developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with reporting standards.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with a history of building and mentoring high-performing teams.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present financial information to non-financial audiences.
