As the Chief FinancialOfficer, you will report to the Chief Executive Officer and workclosely with other senior staff to implement the financial andoperational aspects of the Museum of Arts & Sciences (“MOAS”)strategic vision. The successful candidate will be a strategicthinker who proactively recognizes financial and operationalefficiency needs, anticipates issues and opportunities, andrecommends value-added solutions. Additionally, the ideal candidatewill embrace financial technology and understand how to onboard andimplement modern financial systems. Responsibilities will involveestablishing and evolving MOAS’s financial infrastructures andprocesses in support of building a more collaborative, impactful,and data-driven organization. The CFO will provide solutions toenable sustainable business practices, manage projects, and developand implement new financial and operational processes. The CFO willmanage and oversee two staff members and the Information Technologycontract and will be a member of the Senior Leadership TeamInaddition to leading the financial organization, this role will alsoinclude some operational responsibilities that include: Coordinating and contributing to development and execution ofthe overall strategy. Implementing management processes and policies to ensure coreoperational functions are in place and working effectively toachieve business objectives and financial outcomes with specificfocus on modernizing the finance department for a growingnon-profit organization. Working closely with the Development department to ensureproper reporting and analysis, stewardship, and governance. Overseeing the technology organization, to ensure it isoperational, resilient, and secure. Also collaborate with theoperational team leaders regarding their proposed investments intechnology to support the visitor experience. Collaborating with the other operational leaders to assessoverall business and operational capabilities and develop solutionsthat enable the organization to achieve its goals.
Strategy andLeadership Spearhead financial strategy and operations for an organizationwith an annual budget of $4-5 million. Partner with leadership and other cross-functional team membersto lead complex and/or large projects, ensure cross-collaborationand resourcing, and make recommendations to project trajectory asnecessary. Proactively maintains existing relationships anddevelops new relationships with internal and external businesspartners and vendors. Liaise with and/or manage advisors, vendors and partners(including museum partner relationships, accountants, consultants,and systems and technology service providers) and proactivelycoordinate with all to ensure that needs and objectives aredelivered. Deliver well thought-out financial analyses, modeling,projections and ad hoc analyses / projects / initiatives to allstakeholders and the Board of Directors. Provide vision, direction, and leadership to the finance team.
Build a high performing team that can support the growth of MOAS.Act as a player-coach, managing direct reports, as well asmentoring and coaching staff at various levels.
Financial Reportingand Analytics Contributes to the implementation of overall strategy anddirection by: analyzing business objectives and departmental needs of eachvertical component of the business. developing, communicating, building support for, andimplementing business strategies, plans, and practices. determining resource requirements. evaluating operational processes. measuring outcomes to ensure desired results. identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities. promoting a cross-functional team environment. demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuouslearning. Working in partnership with the CEO, lead the annual budgetplanning process, including development of an annual operatingbudget and implementation of key organization-wide strategicobjectives. Provide monthly operating budget-to-actual reports, withsupporting explanatory narratives, help develop and manage spendingforecasts; strategically interpret financial information and datato facilitate decision making. Ensure properly functioning internal control environment overthe receipt and disbursement of cash. Oversee the annual audit. Work in concert with the head of the Investment Committeeregarding the museum’s endowment.
Systems Implementation Research, identify, onboard, and lead the implementation,development and staff training of a new financial reporting systemensuring a successful integration with existing software systems tocreate robust, timely, and accurate reporting and analytics. Work closely with Senior Team members and the technology teamon the roll-out of new technology systems. Identify and advocate for future software solutions thatsupport growth, team accountability and visibility to theorganization’s numbers.
Supervisory Responsibilities Oversee and manage the Finance Department’s two full timeemployees including an Accounts Manager and Finance & OperationsAssociate Oversee and manage the Museum’s Information Technology vendorcontract and all related decisions and investments intechnology. Prepare for and attend monthly Board Finance Committeemeetings. Liaison with the Museum’s investment partners.
Requirements:
Bachelors or masters degree in accounting, or relevantfield 10+ years’ experience in strategic planning, finance/budgeting,and operations Extensive understanding of non-profit financial management andreporting Significant experience in systems implementation Understanding and ability to lead the vendor bidding process,selection, and management. Experience creating business plans that identify the return oninvestment. Experience working with capital projects. Excellent project management skills and structured thinkingskills Proven ability to lead and develop teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. Must embrace technology as a critical tool for success. Knowledge of Financial Edge and Altru or demonstrated comfortwith learning and utilizing software systems key to success in thisposition.
