Summary:
The ChiefFinancial Officer for UNC Faculty Physicians will lead the financefunctions for the UNCFP including direct oversight of the UNCFPoperational finance function and team, partnering with the UNCSchool of Medicine and UNC Chapel Hill finance teams as well as UNCHealth Corporate Accounting, Treasury, Revenue Cycle, and FinancialPlanning and Analysis teams to ensure the UNCFP remainsoperationally and financially healthy and sustainable.
Specifically, the CFO will be responsible for the development andimplementation of financial strategic direction and annualbudgeting process, will provide financial oversight of thecomponent units of UNCFP, will provide accurate, detailed, andinformative financial reporting, and will support all aspects ofthe UNCFP leadership and operating teams on financial and relatedmatters. The CFO will serve as a resource to the UNC FacultyPractice Board, the UNC Faculty Practice Executive Committee, andwill participate and partner as an executive on the seniorleadership team of the UNCFP, as well as a health care systemfinance team.
Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership:
Provides financial leadership to assurethe long-term stewardship of resources and sustainability ofUNCFP’s mission. Provides oversight and coordination in developingthe annual operating budget, including oversight and support of thefinancial leads of the clinical units (e.g. clinical service linesand clinical departments of UNC SOM) in this effort. Sets andadheres to performance targets for UNCFP for operating income,adjusted operating income (inclusive of transfers), cash flow anddays cash on hand. Consolidate budgets from all departments ofUNCFP. Creates integrated budgets inclusive of clinical andacademic functions. Prepares and presents materials to the FPExecutive Committee and Board, the Executive Council, and the HCSBoard. Develops and maintains the long-term operating, financial,and capital plan in support of the UNC Health system operating,financial and capital plan, especially as it applies to developmentof ambulatory clinical and academic space. Assures availability ofresources to meet long-term financial obligations. Oversees andcoordinates the investments of UNCFP in accordance with allapplicable policies. Manages UNCFP-wide financial statementpreparation. Oversees monthly and annual reporting and preparesmaterials for annual audits. Oversees cost allocation and taxationmethodologies across all departments. Reports and tracks operatingtrends including identifying units deviating from financialtargets. Develops cost accounting tools that accurately measure thefinancial activity and performance of various functional/clinicalunits and clinical service lines/clinical departments. Partnerswith system revenue cycle to ensure UNCFP has a top decile revenuecycle, coding and compliance performance for UNCFP. Develops,implements, and reviews policies. Maintains internal controls,management estimates and financial statement production.
Participates as a member of the Health Care System leadership team,directly reporting to the System Associate CFO, helping shapestrategy and execute strategic priorities. As an embedded andprimary member of the UNCFP leadership team, supports and hasdirect accountability to the President of UNCFP while partneringwith other members of the UNCFP central leadership team, DepartmentChairs, Service Line leaders, and Department Associate Chairs ofAdministration. Supports the UNC SOM CFO and Vice Dean byoverseeing the financial leads of the clinical units as it pertainsto the clinical mission. Partners with the UNC Hospital CFO tocreate integrated planning and reporting for UNC Hospital and UNCFaculty Practice.
