Position Summary:
The Reimbursement Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of healthcare claims to secure maximum reimbursement from insurance carriers, government payers, and patients. This role involves managing the full reimbursement cycle—from claim submission and follow-up to denial management and appeals—while maintaining compliance with payer policies and federal/state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Submit, track, and follow up on insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement. Research and resolve claim denials, underpayments, and rejections through appeals or corrected claim submissions. Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), remittance advices, and payer correspondence to determine appropriate actions. Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and internal departments to resolve outstanding account issues. Analyze reimbursement trends and payer performance, escalating chronic issues to leadership. Maintain detailed documentation of billing and reimbursement activities in the patient accounting system. Stay up to date on payer policies, coding changes, and regulatory requirements impacting reimbursement. Collaborate with coders, charge entry staff, and providers to address coding and documentation deficiencies. Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and internal quality control processes.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or a related field preferred.
