We are seeking for an experienced, motivated, and energetic individual to join our Company as Sr. Reinsurance Claims Examiner, based in Miami, FL. This position is intended to support Everest Re’s continuing expansion in international reinsurance and will be responsible for the handling of property and energy claims underwritten by the Miami based team. The appointment will reinforce our commitment to providing clients and distribution partners with best-in-class claims solutions. In addition, they will provide oversight and management of TPA’s, adjusters, lawyers, and other external experts, with a wide degree of latitude for independent judgment. They will contribute across the organization by providing input, advice and review to underwriters and actuaries and participate in onboarding and stewardship meetings with customers and brokers. In addition to managing a broad claims portfolio, the successful candidate will assist with the training and development of the wider claims team. Key accountabilities:

Adjusting reinsurance claims within policy terms and market business practices, in line with Everest Re policy and designated handling authority Investigating, analyzing, and evaluating liability, damages, and cost exposures. Managing and directing outside experts including adjusters and lawyers and other vendors in accordance with our guidelines. Working with underwriters to support policy construction and drafting, reporting claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments. Participate in claim reviews, stewardship meetings and claim audits. Extensive communication and collaboration with insureds, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, and underwriters. Attending client meetings and industry functions to support retention and development of client relationships and business. Thorough understanding of property coverages and endorsements. Experience with a global insurance company working across multiple underwriting platforms, jurisdictions and markets including handling large, complex claims particularly in energy and heavy industries preferred. Significant experience gained in claims handling or legal experience. Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims process and legal and regulatory environment. Strong negotiation and investigation skills. Ability to think strategically, self-directed and organized. Ability to influence others and resolve complex, disputed claims. In-depth knowledge of the litigation, arbitration, and trial process. Ability to identify and use relevant data and metrics to best manage claims. Collaborative mind-set and willingness to work with people outside immediate reporting hierarchy to improve processes and generate optimal departmental efficiency. Ability and willingness to present to senior management and to others in other group settings.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

The successful candidate will work directly with the Miami / International Claims team and must thrive in a dynamic, small team environment while being capable of working effectively within a larger, multinational environment. Bachelor’s degree required with advanced degree and insurance/reinsurance designations preferred. Claim reinsurance technical or audit experience preferred. Capable of working independently as part of a broader integrated claims team. Engagement in continuous personal and professional development activities including but not limited to undertaking relevant exams (ARe, CPCU, etc). Experience using P2P messaging systems preferred. Superior oral and written communication skills including the ability to concisely present a set of complex facts, provide analysis and make recommendations. Bilingual, English and Spanish required; Portuguese is a plus. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and Access) is required.
