- Hybrid work Position Summary The General Liability Claims Manager plays a key role in overseeing, training, and evaluating staff to ensure the achievement of departmental goals and adherence to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
This position encompasses the management of claims stemming from the general liability (GL) product line, and encompassing supervision of a claims unit to ensure appropriate claim handling processes, procedures and Company Best Practices, and includes technical oversight and management, performance assessments, and additional responsibilities within the GL depatment Responsibilities
- Oversee the timely investigation and efficient processing of General Liability claims, providing direction and technical guidance to team of GL adjusters.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures and changes to processes for the department.
- Facilitate reporting to excess/reinsurance carrier.
- Perform monthly audits of claim files and give direction on diary.
- Lead and develop team and support staff to ensure quality of performance.
- Coordinate large loss reporting and monitor legal calendar for all pre-trials, mediations or hearings and verify defense representation.
- Respond to calls from policyholders and agents with general questions, specific claims and complaints. Participate in account visits and meetings.
- Review and approve reserve increases, transfers and settlement requests and maintain company best practices concerning expense management.
- Participate in the selection process for direct reports; assign duties, set goals, coach and evaluate job performance.
- Mentor and develop team of adjusters and provide technical oversight, acumen and management, including driving litigation results, hearings and mediations; ensure claims staff productivity through developing and maintaining timely, efficient work flow ensuring claims are investigated and processed in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Participate in professional development through training programs in general liability rules, regulations, Best Practices, for states within the Southeast as well as other states relevant, and critical, to our business.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience in the insurance field
- CPCU or JD and/or designation a plus
- 10 or more years of experience in claims handling, including two or more years in a management or lead-worker capacity
- Knowledge of applicable state laws across territories of operation
- Knowledge of fiduciary guidelines, technical adjudication process, claims policy and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of contracts and reinsurer agreements
- Skill in interpersonal interactions, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and with external stakeholders; skill in customer service, problem-solving and organizational leadership
- Capacity to work autonomously while ensuring transparent communication with internal leadership
- Proficient in fostering a positive company culture through effective management and leadership, instilling trust among team members
- Skill in analysis, time management, prioritization, negotiation and project management; ability to multi-task effectively while paying attention to detail
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to customers, senior leaders and other stakeholders
- Proficient in both verbal and written communication with the ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and function specific software applications
