Claims Specialist

  • Commercial E&O Various locations As a Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for the evaluation and handling of complex insurance claims and litigation management duties within AXA XL’s Commercial E&O Professional division for AXA XL, including, but not limited to Lawyers Professional Liability, Accountants Professional Liability and Miscellaneous Professional Liability.

The Claims Specialist will work closely with the Manager and fellow claims handlers to drive Commercial E&O Professional files to resolution and interact and collaborate frequently with Practice Leaders and the Underwriting team. You will also help to achieve the best possible outcomes for AXA XL and its clients by resolving and settling claims proactively. What you’ll be doing Proactively manage assigned claims across Commercial E&O. Setting and implementing the resolution strategy for these claims under the direction and support of Claims management. Ensuring all documentation is present in the file and Claim Handler Guidelines and protocols are followed on all claims assigned. Using technical skills in litigation management and coverage analysis, handle the complex and challenging claims within authority level and specialization. Collaborating with Claims Manager and Practice Leaders on large and complex losses to achieve optimal file outcome for the clients and AXA XL. Determining if / which external vendors to engage, consistent with AXA XL litigation management best practices, and establishing strategy with vendors. Identifying Large Losses and ensuring all steps are taken to achieve the best outcome for the clients and AXA XL(including those claims within authority level). Partnering with retained external counsel in achieving effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies for complex claims in litigation. Managing expenses through thoughtful expense management and claims best practice. Participating in Quality Assurance review process. Seeking to identify new and improved processes. Embracing short and long-term improvement initiatives and actively participating to understand and embed any new initiatives. Assisting Underwriters with policy review and drafting initiatives and participating in external marketing and business development activities. Sharing lessons learned and other identified trends to improve risk assessment and underwriting process. Coordinating and managing communication with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, external vendors, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer service. Producing internal reporting in support of best practice and reserving guidelines. Following the AXA XL Claim Alert process Monitoring and reporting on emerging liability and coverage trends. Coaching less experienced colleagues and being a role model in best practices. You will report to the Claim Manager. What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Education:

JD required.

Experience:

Experience in Professional Liability claims handling and/or experience practicing law in a variety of areas of practice. In connection with same, experience managing, negotiating, and resolving Iegal disputes and/or complex claims. Insurance adjuster licenses required or will take company-provided course and obtain license immediately upon starting.

Analytical Skills:

Possesses sounds judgment, analytical skills on evaluating third-party claims in litigation, and the soft skills required to guide outcomes to resolution based on analyzed best course of action.

Leadership:

Role model by setting a high bar for performance, engagement and commitment. Ability to coach, develop, set expectations, evaluate and hold people accountable for delivering. Takes initiative and leads by example.

Effective communication:

Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, presentation, and advocacy skills. Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of sophistication. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and efficiently juggle numerous concurrent responsibilities.

Collaborative approach:

Develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues, insureds, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters, and legal counsel. Provide guidance and seek input from others as needed to achieve the best result possible. Capable of working and meaningfully engaging in a hybrid virtual and in-person environment.

Approach tasks proactively and anticipate needs. Think quickly and prioritize multiple work streams without sacrificing quality. Act with a sense of urgency.
