They play a critical role in achieving our mission in Claims to deliver exceptional hospitality to our policyholders, achieve optimal claim outcomes, and operate with a high degree of efficiency. This leader is fully accountable for developing and executing strategic initiatives while leading, managing, and nurturing both the Auto Damage and Prime teams. The Director is responsible for defining technical excellence for auto lines, controlling reserves and payment accuracy of claims up to a certain threshold, and retroactive file review and feedback loops with underwriting, loss control, actuarial, and other key stakeholders. The Director of Auto Damage Claims is expected to foster a culture of technical excellence, provide input into training efforts, and own various Claims processes such as First Notice of Loss. How You’ll Make an Impact Defines technical excellence for Auto claims at all levels of the Claims organization including providing input and recommendations to executive management Continuously develops and executes against a line of business strategy for Auto claims; ensure Auto Claims and the broader Claims organization are aware and adhering to the line of business strategy Maintains a deep understanding of the Auto Insurance landscape; attends applicable industry events/conferences; conducts line of business research to identify and understand trends and makes adjustments to strategy accordingly Performs retroactive file reviews on select files to learn from Claims’ successes and failures and apply learnings over time; contributes to Claims’ vision of being the most intelligent organization possible Communicates emergent strategies to Claims and the broader organization Ensures reserve and payment accuracy; provides reserve and payment authority up to a certain threshold; develops and maintains appropriate control mechanisms Leads team of technical Claims professionals comprised of one or more Consultants providing authority and guidance on claims as well as a team of Auto Specialists preforming technical claims handling Responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions and developing capabilities Makes informed strategic and operational business decisions by identifying and analyzing trends and improvement opportunities through the effective use of resources, tools and metrics Develops and maintains a highly efficient operating model to support Claims’ Prime FNOL, Business Intelligence, Business Process Reengineering, Supplier Management and Centralized Support functions Leads Claims data governance efforts and manage the availability, usability, integrity and security of Claims data Performs strategic analysis including customer, competitor, supplier, industry, non-industry and emerging technologies as well as sophisticated cost-benefit analysis for purposes of prioritization and resource allocation Identifies opportunities to centralize, standardize and optimize appropriate tasks; manages a small team of support staff Makes informed strategic and operational business decisions by identifying and analyzing trends and improvement opportunities through the effective use of resources, tools and metrics What You’ll Bring Technical and business management acumen; advanced claims investigations and resolution skills; advanced knowledge of insurance and claims handling principles, practices and procedures Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and teams Knowledge of claims, loss control, underwriting and premium audit disciplines Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills Advanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills Good understanding of Central Insurance’s policies and processes Preferred CPCU Experience and/or understanding of subrogation and recovery processes Master’s degree in or related field and six years of combined years of claims experience in the insurance industry including two years of management experience Or Bachelor’s degree in or related field and eight years of combined years of claims experience in the Insurance industry including two years of management experience Or ten years of combined years of claims experience in the insurance industry including two years of management experience Work Authorization Central will only employ those legally authorized to work in the United States.
