This position is responsible for:developing, maintaining, reviewing, examining, monitoring, and managing the workers’ compensation and crime claims programs for The Salvation Army Southern Territorial Headquarters. Implements all matters of the programs, including but not limited to claim investigations, settlements, settlement authority, and litigation. Establishes standards and procedures for all matters relating to workers’ compensation and crime claims. Responsible for managing the insurance provider and ensuring the provider meets organizational goals of employee coverage and cost effectiveness.

Review assigned claims and conduct appropriate investigations as required; provide feedback to adjusters. Under the delegated authority of the department head, serves as the Salvation Army representative and participates in various aspects of litigated cases which includes providing technical expertise in the collection and analysis of case facts, depositions and interrogatories; serves as a liaison and Salvation Army representative between multiple parties involved in litigation; prepares various technical/analytical reports regarding litigated matters.

Key responsibilities

  • Research and remain familiar with state laws, common law, and laws granting charitable immunity to determine potential financial and public image impact of claims; advises the department head regarding the same in a timely manner; assists in researching and selecting appropriate attorneys based on the nature of the claim.“`{=html}“
  • Analyzes and prepares statistical reports on The Salvation Army’s loss trends, causes of losses, and prevention methods; develops recommendations for programs to reduce loss based on report findings“`{=html}“
  • Interface with Insurance team, attorneys, employees, and management staff; make recommendations regarding some medical aspects of a claim; develop and coordinate return-to-work plans; coordinate and monitor rehabilitation plans for injured employees; evaluate return-to-work medical examinations and make appropriate determinations.

Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and interpret financial reports.

Ability to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines in an effective manner.

Ability to operate a computer.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
