POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Liability Claims is responsible for providing oversight during investigating, as well as directing, over-seeing, managing, and resolving liability exposures of owed facilities and employed physicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation. Responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of medical professional and general liability claims for assigned Hospitals. Perform duties to include, but not limited to, assignment of defense counsel, manage the litigation process, negotiate settlements and attend mediations and trials. Investigate incidents, claims, and exposures of hospitals and employed physicians. Manage and provide oversight to the Manager, Liability Claims during the litigation process. Evaluate financial exposure, setting financial reserves and reporting upstream when exposures exceed personal authority. Evaluate Company’s exposure, set appropriate reserves, and communicate to Senior Director, Liability Claims. Maintain a current diary system to review progress of claims and litigation and update file status as the claim matures keeping in mind a plan for resolution. Direct Risk Managers and/or defense counsel in claims and litigation as they develop. Attend Mediations and Trials, providing supporting documentation if needed, representing the Company. Negotiate and extend settlement authority and resolve claims and suits of up to $200K, both formally in mediations and informally in direct negotiations. Review outside counsel’s work product and fees and communicate to any involved parties. Regular and reliable attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.
