We are seeking a seasoned Director of Compliance to lead our trade compliance program, ensuring full alignment with U.S. import and export laws and regulatory requirements. Position Summary The Director of Compliance will be responsible for overseeing all trade compliance functions, ensuring company operations remain in strict compliance with U.S. and international import/export regulations. The ideal candidate will have more than 10 years of experience in aerospace and defense trade compliance, with deep expertise in ITAR, EAR, OFAC, AECA, HTS, Schedule B, and CBP regulations. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in managing compliance programs related to the sales and procurement of commercial and military parts. Previous government experience with the U.S. Department of State or the Department of Commerce is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage the company’s trade compliance program to ensure full compliance with U.S. and international regulations. Serve as the subject matter expert on U.S. trade laws, including ITAR, EAR, OFAC, AECA, HTS, Schedule B, and CBP laws. Act as the Empowered Official (EO) for all export and import-related activities, managing licenses, agreements, and compliance documentation. Oversee and ensure proper classification of parts under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and Schedule B codes. Work closely with sales, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure compliance throughout the sales and purchasing process for commercial and military parts. Develop and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risks. Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and investigations to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions. Monitor changes in trade compliance regulations and provide updates, guidance, and training to internal teams. Liaise with key government agencies, including the U.S. Department of State, Department of Commerce, OFAC, and Customs and Border Protection. Manage trade compliance reporting, documentation, and record-keeping to meet regulatory and audit requirements. Provide regular updates to executive leadership on compliance program performance, emerging risks, and regulatory changes. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in trade compliance within the aerospace and defense industries. Extensive knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC, AECA, HTS, Schedule B, and CBP regulations. Proven experience managing trade compliance programs for the sales and procurement of commercial and military parts. Prior experience working with or within the U.S. Department of State or Department of Commerce is highly preferred. Empowered Official (EO) certification or ability to obtain EO designation. Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and drive compliance initiatives. Experience conducting internal audits, risk assessments, and implementing corrective action plans. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency with trade compliance software, ERP systems, and data management tools. Preferred Skills Experience working with international suppliers and customers in highly regulated industries. Strong understanding of global trade compliance laws and regulations. Demonstrated ability to lead and improve trade compliance programs.
