Job Description

Solid Waste Compliance Supervisor 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 401 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33401 Under limited supervision, performs technical and supervisory work in the enforcement of the applicable federal, state, and local codes and ordinances. Responsible for planning, assigning, and supervising the work of subordinate solid waste compliance officer in addition to performing field work requiring the application of all such codes and ordinances; and performs other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Provides direction, guidance, and assistance to employees; assigns and oversees work; assists in interviewing and selecting new employees; provides training for new employees and current staff; completes performance reviews of assigned staff; and is responsible for reviewing and approving time and attendance records for assigned employees. 2. Coordinates day-to-day routine inspection activities; organizes, prioritizes, and delegates workload; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; troubleshoots problem situations. 3. Investigates and follows up on complaints of housing, zoning, quality of life safety issues, and nuisance code violations; determines and recommends resolution of the issues involved. 4. Investigates, prepares, and presents cases to the special magistrate and performs re-inspections before and after special magistrate’s hearings to ascertain compliance and coordinate all lien reduction cases and present to the special magistrate. 5. Attends homeowners or neighborhood association meetings and makes informative presentations; prepares landlord training presentations. 6. Meets with property owners and residents and explains code compliance requirements. 7. Maintains records and prepares periodic reports for supervisors. 8. Tracks assigned vehicles roster and vehicle issues. 9. Provides education and information to the community regarding code compliance. 10. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary $31.77 Hourly – Pay Grade 61 Qualifications Associate degree and five (5) years of experience in code inspection and/or enforcement or related field, or any equivalent combination of training and experience required. Two (2) years lead work or supervisory experience is required. Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) certifications: Fundamentals of Code Enforcement and Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement are required. Solid Waste of North America Association (SWANA) Collection and Transfer certification is required or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment. A valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.

Education Requirements :

To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
