As a Code Compliance Supervisor, you will be responsible for enforcing a wide variety of local ordinances including property maintenance, zoning, residential parking, sanitation, tourism, short-term vacation rentals, vehicles for hire, and towing operators to promote a safe, clean and healthy environment. Essential Job Functions Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; handles employee concerns and problems; directs work; counsels and disciplines staff; completes employee performance appraisals; trains and mentors staff. Inspects residential and non-residential properties to enforce City of Savannah codes and ordinances, inspections include but not limited to derelict vehicles, litter and debris control, grass and weed control, housing code, and zoning ordinances. Provides information to property owners and/or tenants regarding code violations and procedures required to achieve compliance. Issues correction notices, citations, and subpoenas to Recorders Court as required; takes before and after photographs to document violations. Establishes, updates, and maintains electronic case files; testifies in court. Tags derelict and/or abandoned vehicles; takes photographs; makes follow-up inspections; and requests towing of vehicles. Attends neighborhood association meetings to make presentations related to code compliance activities. Oversees the field training of new Compliance Officers. Oversees a designated area of the city; assigning Compliance Officers to respond to and investigate complaints. Performs research to locate property owners. Approves assignment of contractor services to address violations. Maintains complete and accurate records. Develops reports and presentations as required. Prepares various reports as required. Investigates and resolves customer concerns. Maintains filing system; maintains records and reports. Enforces department and city policies. Manages officer assignments based on pattern of complaints received. Monitors Compliance Officer daily work to assure complaints are investigated in a timely manner.

Monitors Compliance Officer case management:

identifies case deficiencies and required corrective action. Routinely checks subordinate Officer cases for compliance with department policies and procedures. First tier of appeal for citations issued by subordinate officers. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED, and four (4) years of code enforcement or field investigative experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have the ability to walk several blocks in neighborhoods daily taking pictures and downloading pictures. Requires International Code Council (ICC) International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) certification. Requires International Code Council (ICC) International Zoning Code (IZC) certification This is a critical workforce position.

Varies Additional Requirements Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. Additional Information Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of related City of Savannah codes and ordinances. Knowledge of the principles and practices of property maintenance code enforcement. Skill in decision making. Skill in compiling information and preparing reports and presentations.
