The Compliance Manager position is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization’s regulatory compliance functions, with a focus on state regulatory compliance, compliance auditing, market conduct exams, forms management, and general support of the insurance operations. The Compliance Manager will manage a team of compliance analysts and licensing specialists, and will report to the VP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary.

Major Accountabilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, industry standards, and best practices. Monitor and analyze changes in state and federal laws and regulations, and communicate the impact and requirements to the relevant stakeholders within the organization. Coordinate and manage the state regulatory filings, reporting, and licensing activities, and ensure timely and accurate submissions and renewals. Conduct and supervise compliance audits and reviews, and prepare and present audit reports and findings to management. Manage and respond to state market conduct exams, inquiries, and investigations, and collaborate with internal and external counsel as needed. Provide compliance training, guidance, and advice to the insurance operations staff, agents, and brokers, and foster a culture of compliance and ethics within the organization. Research and resolve compliance issues and questions, and escalate complex or high-risk matters to the VP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary. Evaluate and recommend compliance technologies and platforms to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and automation of the compliance functions. Manage, mentor, and develop the compliance team, and ensure adequate staffing, performance, and quality standards.

Qualifications:
Education/Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Law or related field preferred. A Juris Doctor (JD) or a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) designation is a plus.

Experience/Specialized Skills:

Minimum of five years’ experience in insurance compliance, preferably in commercial auto insurance, and two years management experience required. In-depth knowledge of state and federal insurance laws and regulations, and industry standards and best practices. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, and ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external parties. High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and familiar with compliance technologies and platforms. Willingness to travel occasionally to attend meetings, trainings, or exams.

Physical Requirements:

Constant use of vision, hearing, and communication (oral and written/in-person and via telephone). Frequent concentration, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and grasping. Occasional bending, kneeling and lifting (up to 25 lbs.) Heavy use of computer and office equipment.

Travel/Hours of Service:

Occasional travel required. Periodic work outside of standard business hours or on weekends may be required.
