This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency. Technical work responding to and investigating residential locations to determine compliance with City Ordinance standards. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City. This position works day shift. Days off are assigned on a four-month rotational basis. Field Training may last up to nine (9) months. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following duties are illustrative for this position. Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
Patrols the City in a vehicle or on foot. Looks for violations to the Code of Ordinances.
Responds to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving municipal violations of law.
Resolves violations through voluntary compliance or, when not possible, sets in motion the criminal justice process by way of the initiation of a complaint through the Office of the State Attorney.
Issues citations. Conducts research to determine necessary facts.
Answers telephone and provides information to the public.
Provides testimony in code violation matters.
Maintains records and makes reports of activities and cases filed or forwarded for filing.
Removes illegal signs from City rights-of-way.
Utilizes the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (D.A.V.I.D.) to discover pertinent information regarding parking violations, abandoned vehicles, and other violations of City codes and ordinances.
Other duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Two (2) years of public service, customer service, or a combination of, required. Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) certification required to be obtained within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License and maintenance of a clean driving record required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of the City Code of Ordinances.
Knowledge of the Department’s and Division’s rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and relevant training programs and their content.
Knowledge of the City’s geography, road network, and proximate incorporated areas.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Working knowledge of office equipment including computer, fax machine, and phone system.
Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to keep records and prepare written reports from such records.
Ability to enforce ordinances with firmness, tact, impartiality, and courtesy.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Ability to understand units of measurement.
Ability to drive a full-size pickup truck.
