Job Grade:

7 primary functions: The IRA specialist serves as subject matter expert (SME) for all aspects of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). This role supports internal team members with IRA-related inquiries, ensures compliance with regulations, and acts as the administrator for IRA software systems. The IRA specialist focuses on managing and administering Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) accounts for members, leveraging the system platform for efficient processing, compliance, and reporting. The IRA Specialist would need to ensure the balance of excellent member service with compliance and operational efficiency, all while utilizing the platform to simplify processes and stay ahead of regulatory changes.

responsibilities:

Act as the internal SME on all IRA products, services and regulatory requirements. Serve as administrator of the IRA software platform, managing updates, troubleshooting, and user permissions. Support front-line and back-office staff with IRA-related questions, issues and procedural guidance. Process IRA transactions such as contributions, rollovers, transfers, distributions and required minimum distributions (RMDs) in accordance with credit union policies and IRS regulatory requirements. Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and within required deadlines. Maintain accurate, detailed records of all IRA accounts and related transactions using system platform and core processing applications. Educate members on IRA options, including contributions, rollovers, tax benefits, and withdrawal options. Guide front-line staff through the process of setting up and managing member IRA accounts, including troubleshooting issues related to the system platform. Serve as resource for system and product knowledge for Member Experience staff, including branches and Contact Center. Monitor IRA portfolio trends and make appropriate recommendations for growth. Ensure all IRA accounts comply with federal regulations, including the IRS rules on contributions, distributions, and required minimum distributions (RMDs). Stay up to date on changes in IRA-related legislation (e.g., SECURE Act) and how these changes impact member accounts. Ensure all forms, disclosures, and documents are provided to members as required by regulations. Leverage platform software and technology tools to track account activity, generate reports, and ensure compliance. Utilize automated features for tax reporting, such as generating 1099-R forms for distributions and other required filings. Work closely with other departments (e.g., loan department, compliance, accounting) to ensure seamless IRA services and account management. Provide input to improve internal procedures and member service regarding IRA accounts and platform usage. Generate and review reports related to IRA performance, account activity, and regulatory compliance. Assist in the preparation of IRS filings and annual reports for members. Assist the AVP Branch Operations with correcting IRA transactions, when necessary, and ensure that the corrected forms are properly submitted to both the IRS and member. Maintain records of IRA transactions and documentation, ensuring that they are organized and easily accessible in compliance with credit union policies. Partner with the Learning and Development team to provide input on training content, assist in the development of training materials, and ensure timely updates when regulatory or product changes necessitate revisions. Comply with all Federal regulations, Credit Union policies and procedures, including Bank Secrecy and the USA Patriot Act. Perform job duties in accordance with the Credit Union’s values, mission and vision. Performs other duties as assigned.

minimum requirements:

High school diploma, some college preferred Minimum two years in IRA/Ascensus experience Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Service oriented with desire to assist members and credit union staff Detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills. Strong knowledge of all IRA account types and associated regulatory requirements (Traditional, Roth, SEP, and Simple IRAs and related IRS rules and regulations) Must have basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office suite IRA certification (e.g., CISP) is a plus.
