The Director of Credit Risk Strategy is a senior leader responsible for setting and executing credit strategy across the consumer lending lifecycle — from acquisition to account management. This individual will lead credit policy development, risk analytics, and Credit Committee governance while playing a key strategic role in partnering with Sales to support merchant growth opportunities without compromising portfolio quality. As a direct report to the President, this position requires a strong executive presence , sharp analytical skills , and the ability to balance risk with revenue opportunity in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Summary:

The person will lead credit policy, risk analytics, quality assurance, portfolio performance, and Credit Committee governance while serving as the strategic bridge between risk management and business enablement. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical acumen, executive presence, and hands-on experience in consumer credit – within fintech, POS lending, or embedded finance. Experience with Salesforce and credit decisioning platforms is highly preferred.

Principle Responsibilities:
Credit Policy and Strategy Leadership:

Own the end-to-end consumer credit strategy for all POS financed products. Develop, maintain, and enforce a credit policy and merchant risk program framework that aligns organizational goals and risk appetite. Chair the Credit Committee – clearly and confidently communicating decisions, rationale, and policy adjustments to executives and stakeholders. Manage the Credit Bureau relationship on behalf of the Company, including originations, and reporting.

Risk Analytics & Portfolio Performance:

Use advanced analytics to assess portfolio performance, acquisition trends, and unit economics. Define risk thresholds for credit and merchant risk performance. Design and manage dashboards and reports that monitor KPI’s across delinquency, approval rates, loss rates, yields, support tickets, cancellations, and merchant churn. Lead champion / challenger testing to drive continuous credit model and strategy improvements. Design universal risk controls for credit and merchant management strategies.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Serve as a key credit strategy liaison to the Sales and Revenue team, evaluating new merchants’ opportunities and pricing strategies. Ensure that credit policies support scalable growth, while maintaining performance thresholds and profitability. Partner with the Product, Operations, Compliance and Technology teams to implement credit logic, workflows, QA test scripts and necessary enhancements to Salesforce or related platforms.

Executive & External Communication:

Present risk strategy updates, performance reviews, and forecasts to the President and executive leadership team. Represent the company in credit-related discussions with merchants, investors, regulators, and strategic partners.

Team Leadership & Development:

Mentor and develop a team of credit analysts, risk strategist, and QA specialists. Build a culture of data-first decision making, accountability, and continuous learning.

QA and Portfolio Performance:

Oversee the development and execution of a robust Quality Assurance program to ensure adherence to credit policy, merchant risk management programs, and call center policies.

Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to represent the company in discussions with merchants or funding participants, bank partners, regulators or state examiners. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.

Work Experience:

5+ years experience in a Credit Strategy or Risk Management role. Credit Committee or Model Risk Management experience preferred. Supervisory and/or leadership experience required.

Training and Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics or a related degree required; MBA preferred.

Certifications:

SAS, CFA, FRM, CBF, or CBA preferred. Complete all required training as assigned. Working Environment and Requirements to Perform Job Responsibilities Ability to work full-time (40+ hours per week).
