POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director is a member of the ACEN professional nursing staff. The Associate Director interfaces with ACEN Directors, nursing faculty, and leaders of nursing education programs and transition-to-practice programs currently accredited or seeking accreditation with the ACEN. The Associate Director is a resource for facilitating the interpretation and understanding of ACEN policies, processes, and the Standards and Criteria. The Associate Director is visible in the accreditation community and represents ACEN at various accreditation events as needed. The Associate Director reports to the Chief Accreditation Officer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1. OPERATIONS
Under the supervision of a Director, participates in assigned processes for programs seeking initial and continuing accreditation, including reading and critically evaluating Candidacy Presentations (domestic), Self-Study Reports, Site Visit Reports, and related documentation for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with the ACEN Standards. Supports faculty and program leaders through the initial and continuing accreditation processes. Provides content expertise to assist in the review and editing of written documents of accreditation processes, such as the accreditation manual, guidelines, and templates. Supports the review and revision of Standards and Criteria. Maintains expert knowledge of accreditation cycles and processes. Participates in Accreditation Services/Director meetings, cross-departmental committees, meetings (including Evaluation Review Panels (ERP) as needed), and training (e.g., cybersecurity, new products). Maintains accurate and current information in ACEN’s data management system by contributing to the collection and assurance of the integrity of the data. Completes other duties as assigned. 2.
PROGRAMMATIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the identification, recruitment, retention, and evaluation of new and emeriti peer evaluators, team chairs, and ERP members. Provides input on training materials for peer evaluators, team chairs, ERP members, Board members, program administrators, faculty, and program representatives. Assists in assigned processes related to ERP meetings. Reviews and edits site visits team reports (single program only unless has prior experience) to meet expected ACEN standards. Provides support, coaching, and mentoring to Peer Evaluators related to ACEN processes and expectations. Participates in onsite visits as needed to serve as team chair or member. Assists in USDE, CHEA, and ANCC recognition petition/report/processes as assigned. 3.
VISIBILITY
The Associate Director is visible in the accreditation community. The Associate Director promotes the benefits of accreditation and the services provided by ACEN. Participates in ACEN-sponsored events and activities as needed (e.g., forums, workshops). The Associate Director has exceptional interpersonal skills and represents ACEN with a polished, professional demeanor. 4.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Associate Director has a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution and a doctoral degree in any field is preferred. Current ACEN Peer Evaluator experience is preferred. Qualifications include knowledge and prior experience with accreditation processes, current knowledge of educational and nursing practice and higher education experience in teaching or administration. The Associate Director demonstrates advanced analytical and writing skills, with a strong ability to interpret accreditation reports, assess alignment with standards, and craft professional correspondence. The Associate Director possesses sound judgement, excellent written and oral communication skills, is computer proficient, maintains confidentiality, and has strong organizational and project management skills. The Associate Director is responsible, flexible, reliable, and dependable with the ability to process information quickly and effectively handle competing priorities, multiple tasks simultaneously and meets deadlines. The Associate Director effectively uses teaching/instructional strategies, interfaces confidently with institutional leaders and nursing program faculty and leaders, has knowledge of assessment methods, practices, and principles and possesses strong analytical, facilitation, interpersonal and team skills. The Associate Director position does require domestic travel and may require international travel. The position does require occasional evenings/weekends, and the Associate Director must be able to work remotely while on travel.
