Job Overview:

The Director, General Ledger Accounting will lead and evolve our general ledger accounting operations for the global client accounting team. This role will be pivotal in supporting and implementing our global initiatives for standardization as well as executing the global center of excellence vision. The position will work closely with regional accounting leaders, cross functional leaders, and senior stakeholders to ensure excellence in service delivery, process efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all our markets. The ideal candidate is ambitious, self-directed, and capable of working autonomously and with the broader leadership team to achieve the business and financial goals of the company. This position also requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills for relationship building throughout the company.

Roles and Responsibilities:

People Management Lead a team of general ledger managers and accountants, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and evaluating performance. Attract, develop, and retain diverse, high-caliber talent while fostering a collaborative, supportive, and engaged team environment. Provide ongoing training and coaching to direct and indirect reports, clearly define performance responsibilities, goals, expectations, and objectives, and regularly evaluate teams to ensure company standards are met. If expectations are not met, take responsibility for coaching and corrective actions. Conduct ongoing performance management activities by providing constructive feedback and coaching through regular check-ins, structured one-on-one meetings, mid-year touchpoints, and annual reviews. Operations Collaborate with regional accounting teams to support and implement the standard external accounting services model in accordance with the global shared services vision. Review and identify opportunities for process improvements and work with global shared services leadership to standardize processes and workflows in accordance with global center of excellence vision. Partner with global and regional teams to prepare for and execute platform migrations to new accounting systems, ensuring effective change management and training. Act as a change agent to continuously improve processes, systems, and organizational effectiveness within the global GL function. Establish and manage a financial statement delivery tracking system for all regions to utilize to be able to globally report on completion statistics monthly. Compile and provide key performance indicator metrics as requested for leadership along with recommendations for improvements in opportunity areas. Collaborate with global client accounting departments (financial systems and implementation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, etc.) to ensure cohesive delivery of global client accounting objectives. Partner with the financial management leadership teams to enhance the financial services delivered to our clients and collaboration between the financial management and general ledger accounting teams. Build strong relationships with senior leaders within the regions to support and enhance the services delivered to our clients. Compliance Ensure global processes adhere to Federal and State rules and regulations. Additional Duties Supports and participates in the development of the new accounting software Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned related to the stated objective for the position. Practices and adheres to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards. Always conducts business with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct. Performs or assists with any operations required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain a specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines. Follows all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management. Performs any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned. Supervisory As the team grows and evolves, direct people leadership may be assigned. Initially, this individual will indirectly lead teams.

Skills and qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university, CPA certification, MBA or related work experience is preferred. Ten (10) years of leadership/supervisory experience in the Property Management industry or real estate fields a plus, residential management is preferred. Expertise in US GAAP, property management accounting, and financial analysis Advanced Excel, database, and system proficiency Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making Project and time management in fast-paced environments Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills Commitment to service excellence and urgency in customer response Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable under pressure Travel Work involves no or minimal travel.
