The Opportunity:

RS&H is seeking a Director of Accounting Services for our Controllership team. This position could be hybrid in Jacksonville, FL, or fully remote, determined by the selected individual’s location. This position is responsible for the performance of the department and for participation in the development of policy, procedures, and strategies. This role tends to make decisions that are more tactical, strategic, and operational in nature, and requires the ability to influence others to adopt new practices, technologies, and approaches. This role has full managerial authority.

Essential Functions:

Directs and oversees all aspects of the accounting services for the firm. Accounting services consist of Billing, Collections, Accounts Payable, Expense Reporting, Payroll, and Project Review. Assists the Controller in ensuring effective internal controls are in place and compliance with US GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules. Participates in the development and management of the department budget. Leads technology and process innovation projects across the Controllership team, including system implementations, module enhancements, process workflow changes, and reporting enhancements. Identifies appropriate technology to improve business processes and compliance and negotiates contracts with the vendor. Creates, tracks, and reports operational metrics for the accounting service functions to ensure service delivery is meeting established KPIs. Maintains regular reporting of Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) with the goal of maximizing the sales-to-cash cycle through process improvements. Supports weekly cash flow reporting by maintaining a forecast of future billings, collections, payables, and payments. Assists with the external audit of financial statements and ensures reporting deadlines are met. Sets expectations for and ensures an engaging and empowering work environment across the team, including communicating clear expectations and providing effective performance feedback through regular meetings, recognition, rewards, coaching, and disciplinary action, when needed. Provides guidance and oversight to ensure alignment of goals and objectives across the team. Has full managerial responsibility, such as hiring, performance reviews, pay decisions, associate development and coaching, discipline, and retention efforts. Oversees the successful development, maintenance, implementation, and communication of policies, practices, technology, and procedures both within the team and across the firm. Directs and guides efforts to proactively identify and implement efficiencies in business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output. Works closely with leaders across the Finance Team and the firm to ensure successful achievement of team, business unit, and firm-wide objectives. Fosters cross-department collaboration and relationships in support of one RS&H and our culture of caring.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field and 10 years of progressive leadership experience in the field. Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, & Consulting field and/or State DOT or federal contracts Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Office applications. Experience leading accounting services, including transactional accounting functions such as Billing, Accounts Payable, and Project Setup. Experience in the development of and change management initiatives around new policies and processes, including leading implementation of new technologies such as accounting ERPs and workflow tools. The role requires knowledge of GAAP accounting rules, auditing, and financial statements. Must possess advanced organizational, prioritization, and oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with others. Proven experience successfully managing multiple large-scale and/or complex projects and proven ability to successfully lead a multi-faceted team and address challenging and potentially controversial issues in a sound professional and business-like manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA certification and/or a master’s degree. Public accounting experience. Regulatory compliance expertise, specifically Federal Acquisition Regulation. Located in Jacksonville, Florida.
