Position Title Director, Accounting Job Type Staff FT/PT Full-Time Employee Class Description P1-Staff exempt General Position Description Oversees and establishes the practices, procedures and goals for the College-wide student accounting, and accounts payable functions. Collaborates with department leadership to support the supervision of the financial operations of the College by providing strategic and tactical input related to accounting topics. Brings subject matter expertise of generally accepted accounting principles, Federal, State, and local regulations, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements to support the alignment of department goals to the College goals.

  • $95,000 per year Essential Job Functions Description of Job Function 1. Oversees the college-wide student accounting function including: tuition and fees assessment; college
  • wide cashiering; accounts receivable student and third-party billing and collection; student account deletion for non-payment process; 1098-T Tuition Statement Federal tax form preparation and submission; student refund management.

Description of Job Function 2. Establishes and implements short and long-term goals and objectives for the accounts payable and student accounts functions and ensures they are aligned with the College’s strategic plans and desired outcomes. Description of Job Function 3. Develops and implements conflict resolution strategies regarding financial transactions with students and other customers. Monitors and updates strategies based on effectiveness of resolutions. Description of Job Function 4. Develops student financial related policies, procedures, and processes in collaboration with Student Services and Financial Services division. Description of Job Function 5. Manages the college-wide accounts payable function including: processing vendor invoices; coordinating disbursements through various payment methods; staff and faculty travel reimbursements, 1099 and 1042 Federal tax form preparation and submission. Description of Job Function 6. Supervises and develops the student accounting (accounts receivable, cashiering offices, and business analyst) and accounts payable staff over multiple campus locations. Creates training and supports development of staff based on changing needs of the department. Description of Job Function 7. Manages the stale dated check process in conjunction with the financial aid, grants accounting, accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable departments. Description of Job Function 8. Oversees all student accounting and accounts payable policies and procedures to ensure they comply with College, State, and Federal regulations; enforces these policies and procedures. Description of Job Function 9. Reviews student accounting and accounts payable processes for sound internal controls; updates and implements enhanced financial procedures as needed based on assessment. Description of Job Function 10. Analyzes and evaluates transactional financial data to monitor data integrity and identify anomalies associated with accounts receivable, payable and student accounts. Reports on any patterns of anomalies and oversees the design and implementation of improved financial procedures based on analysis. Description of Job Function 11. Oversees the data preparation for financial reports as required by internal or external parties. Reviews all financial reports for accuracy, consistency, and validity before submitting to college and agency users. Description of Job Function 12. Acts as a subject matter expert to other college departments by providing technical and advisory assistance on matters related to units under umbrella of responsibility. Required Field of Study Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in business administration, finance or accounting. Other Required Qualifications Significant and progressive experience with accounting, internal control activities, management or analysis of financial activities, or auditing activities. Experience supervising and developing professional accounting, finance or auditing employees. Advanced experience with data analytical software such as Microsoft Excel. Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning accounting system, particularly, the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Billing and Accounts Payable modules. Required License/Certification Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education & Field of Study Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting from a regionally accredited institution. Preferred Type of Experience Experience with accounting functions in a Higher education setting. Experience with Installment Plan, Refund, Cashiering and Check/Invoice systems. Experience with BANNER software. Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. Experience with reviewing, updating, and creating policy in line with statutory requirements and best practices. Experience working with large amounts of data and creating reporting to assess department activities and effectiveness. Preferred Licenses/Certification Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or related professional certification. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
