DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING & FINANCE

 

OVERVIEW:

The Director of Accounting and Finance is a strategic and operational financial leader responsible for overseeing core financial functions, managing accounting operations, ensuring financial reporting accuracy, and supporting long-term business strategy. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this position plays a vital role in financial planning, internal controls, compliance, budgeting, and team development in a manufacturing environment. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 Financial Strategy & Planning
Partner with C-Suite to develop and maintain financial projections and long-term strategic plans.
Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes; consolidate data and summarize key results for executive presentation.
Analyze P&L, balance sheets, KPIs, and financial trends to provide actionable insights.
Support insurance renewals, audit preparation, and capital planning efforts.
Use operational and industry data to enhance financial strategy and scenario planning.
Accounting Operations & Compliance
Lead the accounting function, including general ledger management, account reconciliation, month-end and year-end closings.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data, enforce internal controls, and ensure adherence to GAAP.
Oversee tax filings (sales/use, business licenses), and manage the annual financial audit in collaboration with external auditors.
Maintain and improve the accounting system, including customer account setup and credit limit enforcement within Microsoft Dynamics GP.
Cash Flow & Asset Management
Oversee cash management processes including bank reconciliations, cash postings, and documentation.
Ensure accurate valuation and reconciliation of inventory, including annual physical counts and monthly roll forwards.
Manage AR and AP processes including collections, credits, returns, and invoice reviews.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Provide cross-training and act as a resource for staff on policies, procedures, and system usage.
Drive process improvements, implement best practices, and support CAPA and internal audit initiatives.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Reporting & Communication
Prepare timely internal financial reports and executive dashboards.
Communicate financial performance, variances, and strategic insights clearly and effectively to executive leadership.
Act as a liaison between departments to ensure alignment on financial goals and metrics.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Minimum 5-7 years of progressive finance/accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required.
CPA certification required
Experience with chemical or industrial manufacturing is a plus.
Strong foundation in GAAP, financial planning, reporting, and business strategy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred).
Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking, project management, and prioritization abilities.
High integrity with a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
