We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Vice President of Accounting with a strong focus on tax planning and compliance to join our executive leadership team.
Position Purpose:
The Vice President of Accounting will lead all aspects of the company’s accounting operations with a particular emphasis on corporate tax strategy, planning, compliance, and risk mitigation . This role will be instrumental in optimizing the company’s tax position, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, and overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have deep technical tax knowledge coupled with strong leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead tax planning strategies to optimize federal, state, and local tax positions Oversee preparation and review of tax returns in coordination with external advisors Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and timely filing of all required tax documents Manage accounting operations including general ledger, financial reporting, payroll, and revenue recognition Develop and implement internal controls to support financial integrity and compliance Provide tax implications analysis for business initiatives, M&A activity, and entity structuring Stay current on tax legislation and advise executive leadership on emerging tax risks and opportunities Collaborate with the SVP of Accounting to align tax strategy with broader corporate financial goals Assist in developing a high-performing accounting team, including tax and general accounting functions Support the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and tax advisors
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required, Master’s in Taxation or MBA preferred 10+ years of progressive accounting and tax experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and
U.S. GAAP
Strong track record in tax strategy, compliance, and audit readiness Experience working with complex entity structures and multi-state operations Advanced proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., Great Plains, QuickBooks Enterprise, Thomson Reuters, advanced MS Excel skills, etc.) Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills Industry experience in insurance, construction, or field services preferred
Work Schedule:
Full Time Exempt Position Mondays through Fridays, 8:00am to 5:00pm Work hours may extend based on business operation needs This position is expected to be in the office location on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
