The College Admissions Counselor will support high school students in preparing for college by providing guidance on applications, financial aid, and decision-making processes. This role involves direct counseling, teaching college readiness classes, coordinating college-related events, managing student records, and overseeing various testing procedures. The ideal candidate should have extended knowledge of college applications, financial aid, college types, and editing application essays and will work closely with students, parents, staff, and college representatives to ensure students are well-prepared for their post-secondary education.
Job Responsibilities
College Counseling
Provide counseling to seniors on their college applications, financial aid, and decision-making processes through college track classes and one-on-one meetings. Manage communication with students’ parents/guardians to support this process.
Write recommendation letters for seniors and other students applying for summer programs or internships.
Guide students in filling out the CommonApp, writing effective college admissions essays, and completing supplemental essays. Review and edit each student’s CommonApp and essays before submission.
Ensure that each senior completes the

FAFSA, CSS

Profile (if applicable), and other college-related financial aid applications accurately and on time.
Plan and teach weekly college track classes for seniors and juniors.
Deliver monthly college readiness presentations to 9th and 10th-grade students.
Maintain and regularly update Naviance, ensuring its effective use.
Coordinate college admissions representatives’ visits to the PCSS campus and maintain student attendance. Facilitate the effectiveness of these visits by inviting college representatives as needed.
Organize college visits for all students in grades 9-12 throughout the school year.
Disseminate information on career exploration, college planning, course selection, financial aid, job opportunities, and summer enrichment programs.
Provide training and information to staff on college-related issues.
Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Executive Director and the Director of College Counseling to provide updates, deliver reports, and discuss college counseling strategies.
Collaborate with the adjustment counselor and other team members to run the National Honor Society.
Plan and conduct a school-wide career fair with the assistance of NHS students and staff members.
Testing
As the school’s AP Coordinator, maintain the College Board’s AP Course Audit and AP Course Registration and Test Ordering accounts.
In coordination with the school’s testing coordinator, receive and securely store AP exam materials, create AP exam schedules, administer AP exams, and return AP exam materials.
Follow up on SAT and ACT registration for high school students.
Order SAT and ACT fee waivers and distribute them according to the testing agency’s guidelines.
Coordinate the school-wide PSAT exam ordering and administration with the testing coordinator.
Administer SSD SAT tests and return materials for students with approved accommodations, in coordination with the school’s director of special education. Generate SSD reports as needed.
Administrative
Serve as the Dual Enrollment contact person for students, parents, and colleges to streamline the dual enrollment process. Add dual enrollment and other college courses to students’ records on PowerSchool.
Maintain student records (transcripts, report cards, test scores, etc.) in various databases and provide them as needed.
Collaborate with the Chief Academics Officer during Master Schedule creation and course selections.
Update student rosters and schedules on PowerSchool.
Collect course selection data, upload it to the upcoming school year’s database, and serve as the contact person for students with questions.
Guide students through the add/drop period to ensure they meet graduation requirements.
Assist the Dean of Students, Executive Director, and Grade Chairs with student and parent academic meetings.
Monitor students’ graduation progress and proactively address any issues that could jeopardize their graduation.
Attend grade-level meetings, prioritizing 11th and 12th grades.
Other Duties
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director, Chief Academics Officer, or the Director of College Counseling.
