Job Summary The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Accounting Analyst – Comptroller’s Office on the Dahlonega campus. The Accounting Analyst is responsible for designing accounting procedures that conform to Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, and USG fiscal policies and procedures. The position analyzes data, produces financial reports, and researches applicable standards to advise Financial Services leadership on technical accounting issues. Responsibilities Collaborate with AVP for Financial Services and Assistant Controller to prepare Financial Reports used by both external and internal stakeholders, including preparation of the Annual Financial Report, Quarterly Reports, Budgetary Compliance Report, Athletics Financial Reporting, and IPEDS finance survey.
Process year end journal entries, including adjustments in the GAAP and CAPITAL ledgers, to ensure the annual financial report presents the university’s operations as a business-type entity in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, and statutory accounting requirements. Analyze trial balance data to explain year over year changes.
Compile documentation for internal and external auditors, while validating summary-level report data to all supporting files.
Perform routine accounting tasks such as posting journal entries and answering questions from campus stakeholders including topics such as budget activity, reserve accounts, and establishment of new department IDs.
Perform accounting research and apply to university’s operations, policies, and procedures. Examples of research include GASB standards, IRS and state tax laws, Board of Regents Policy Manual, USG Business Procedures Manual, and Uniform Guidance for Federal Grants.
Lead the implementation of new accounting procedures to conform to new GASB standards in collaboration with USO staff.
Assess, maintain, and design internal controls for financial reporting using Green Book Standards and COSO Framework. This includes preparation of the annual financial reporting risk assessment and analyzing business procedures in AP, Payroll, Purchasing, Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Budget, Sponsored Programs, and HR to identify inherent risks, mitigating controls, and assessment of residual risk. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Motivated self-starter who is willing to learn and embrace new technology.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in interpersonal relations and working in a collaborative environment. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in accounting or a bachelor’s degree with an active CPA license.
Minimum of 1 year experience in public accounting, university accounting, or governmental accounting.
CPA License or eligibility and progress toward licensure. Preferred Qualifications Advanced proficiency in Excel preferred.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or Workday ERP preferred.
