To analyze the strategic direction of a 1.5 billion dollar health system comprised of hospitals and clinics, financially and clinically. To drive initiative with product line and new service costs with regard to system profitability and benchmark data and measurement to other UMMC health systems. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field and three (3) years of experience in or related to accounting or finance, or equivalent combination of education/experience in or related to accounting or finance.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:

NA Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Analytical skills to identify and comprehend opportunities for financial and operational improvement through data analysis and interpretation. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques. Advanced skill in use of spreadsheets, relational database and word processing software. Communication skills, verbal and written, knowledge of relational databases, medical information systems, and statistical methods and applications. Ability to teach various audiences about data. The ability to interpret data. Knowledge of health care and industry trends. Interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain professional relationships with executive, department management, physicians, and others. Superior analytical and project management skills. Knowledge of large scale financial support system in a healthcare environment. SMS adhoc reporting experience preferred and cost accounting and budget analysis experience. Report writing experience with (crystal reports, MS reporting services, or other writing applications.) Presentation experience using PowerPoint preferred.

Responsibilities:

Utilizes the decision support database system that integrates costs, payments and other elements for critically analyzing the profitability of programs at UMMC including but not limited to: product lines, DRG, MD services, existing and proposed, hospital services, financial classes and service types.
Assists the financial staff with the design of financial statements that will accurately reflect the financial performance of UMMC.
Provides specialized assistance in identifying performance measurement and statistical process control to UMMC performance improvement teams, operational units conducting improvement activities. Develops reporting and analysis to assist in the identification of opportunity for improvement using external benchmarks and financial planning models.
Assists in the development and delivery of monthly reports, assists in the development of management reporting tools and trains senior management to understand capabilities of reports with regard to financial services
Provides advanced analysis and targets areas for improvement related to quality, operational, financial, and other performance and external benchmarking measures.
Assists and trains managers and others with understanding financial and budget reports, productivity reports and using the UMMC operational database and other UMMC information.
Assures and accepts the responsibility for overseeing UMMC contract obligations. Collaborates with controller and UMMC executive leadership regarding monthly variances.
Assists with the development of financial models with emphasis on financial statements, budget allocation, and cost accounting. Facilitates productivity standards and strategic plans, and net revenue models for the organization to determine long range goals in regard to finance and cost reduction.
