The Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) advises the Mayor of the City of New York on criminal justice policy. MOCJ develops and implements strategies, with partners inside and outside government, to reduce crime and incarceration and to promote fairness and legitimacy. MOCJ works with law enforcement, city agencies, non-profits, foundations, and others to implement data-driven strategies that address current crime conditions, prevent offending, and build strong neighborhoods that ensure enduring safety. Role:

The Fiscal Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring effective and efficient allocation of resources, helping to manage accounting processes and conducting financial analysis to support the agency’s initiatives and programs. Under the supervision of the Fiscal Director, the Fiscal Analyst will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure complete, accurate, and timely processing of all invoices and performing core accounting and operations duties in alignment with NYC and MOCJ’s financial goals and objectives. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide guidance and support in bookkeeping processes, including accruals, related journal entries, and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Assist in reviewing and validating invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established budgets, contract terms, and New York City Comptroller’s directives. Work closely with internal departments and external vendors to address discrepancies or concerns promptly. Accurately input invoices into New York City’s Financial Management system and verify coding and availability of funds. Support financial analysis efforts by compiling and presenting relevant data to aid budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making processes. Work alongside the internal auditor, providing detailed expense documentation and assisting with pre-invoice audits. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improving processes and strengthening internal controls, fostering efficiency and transparency. Stay up to date on changes in accounting policies and regulations, offering insights and recommendations to ensure compliance and best practices. Communicate financial information effectively, ensuring stakeholders have a clear understanding of key insights and considerations.

  • 56058 Minimum Qualifications 1.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above. Preferred Skills

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Proven experience in budget/financial analysis, and financial reporting within a non-profit organization, government agency, or educational institution.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel).
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, fund accounting, and grant federal and state compliance regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently or with a team to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality results under pressure.
  • Familiarity with financial management software and/or financial systems is preferred (e.g., NYC Financial Management System, FMS).
  • Maintaining an enthusiastic work ethic, in addition to possessing excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which includes being able to work well with others in a diverse team/work environment.
