Financial Operations Manager Location:
EDC Office, 301 N Cattlemen Rd #203, Sarasota, FL 34232 Reporting to: President & CEO Organization The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County is a successful 501(c)(6) public-private partnership founded in 2004. We are comprised of community leaders and government officials. We are the designated economic development agent for Sarasota County including the cities of North Port, Venice, and Sarasota, and the Town of Longboat Key. We support diverse business relocations and expansions that complement our community. Through a one-stop-shop, concierge services, the EDC helps companies establish, expand, and flourish. Our work facilitates new job creation, grows the economy and the tax base, and reduces vulnerability to external shocks that can undermine our community’s long-term health. We are a small but mighty team, dedicated to collaborating with our stakeholders to identify and successfully grow the diverse business community in Sarasota County. Position Overview The Operations Manager plays an important role in ensuring transparency and accuracy of the organization’s financial position. This person will work closely with the EDC President & CEO, the EDC Treasurer, and the outsourced accounting partner to ensure that the organization is fulfilling our Board of Director’s goals and contractual obligations.
Responsibilities include:
- Through QuickBooks, creates budget and tracks throughout the year
- Process payables twice per month
- Verify that goods were received and approve invoices for payment
- Code invoices with pertinent information
- Manage benefits/insurance programs for the team
- Onboard and offboard team members in payroll system
- Record team members PTO in payroll system
- Grant management and reports, tracking grant cycles and payments
- Manage and track vendor contracts for deadlines and deliverables
- Make check deposits and record all transactions in QuickBooks
- Compile required reports and invoices pertaining to the County contract and submit to county for payment monthly
- Manage staff mileage reports and submit monthly
- Track and report on key private and public investment data/trends
- Review and manage invoicing while maintaining donor database
- Manage aging and receivables
- Ensure yearly investment renewals and reminder notices are sent timely
- Produce yearly budget preparation for County contract submission
- Work with outsourced accounting to provide financial data timely and accurately, so that they can do month-end general ledger closing procedures and reporting to the EDC Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Attend Finance Committee and EDC Board Meetings
- Makes recommendations for internal financial controls and policies
- Actively monitors the EDC’s Employee Policies and Handbook for compliance, and makes recommendations to the President and CEO, to implement or improve policy changes Candidate Requirements Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree preferred At least 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting Experience in QuickBooks, able to analyze and develop reports Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex bookkeeping items Experience managing vendor contracts Salesforce experience a plus Strong process management skills and ability to multi-task Excellent attention to detail Proactive problem-solving abilities Ability to effectively communicate in writing and engage in a professional, and articulate manner Able to handle politically sensitive and confidential information Knowledge & Skills Compliance with nonprofit regulations relating to federal, state, and local laws that govern nonprofit organizations is preferred Proficient in computer hardware and software including, but not limited to QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) Success Factors Loves working in a small team who is mission driven Takes initiative, works independently, and makes responsible decisions Self-sufficient and organized Diplomatic, pleasant, patient, professional, and tactful Demonstrates sound ethics and transparency Able to work with urgency, at times under the stress of deadlines To apply email a resume to Judy Braun at judy@braunleadership.
