Description The Patient Accounting Manager is responsible for supervision and performance of Patient Accounting operations including the appropriate and timely billing, resolution of account receivables, ensuring a positive cash flow and a high degree of customer satisfaction, and attaining the hospital goals of the timely resolution of receivables; cash and bad debt write offs are within guidelines. The Manager will define and achieve departmental objectives, manage billing and follow-up of patient accounts, compliance with third party payer regulations, and work with hospital resources to assure ongoing improvements to key revenue cycle indicators.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree required with an emphasis in finance or accounting preferred; a combination of relevant education and additional experience will be considered.
Eight years applicable experience in healthcare financial management; at least five years in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities:

Directly manages supervisors and indirectly manages staff and the daily operations of the collection and adjudication process of Patient Accounting Department, by monitoring billing, collections and accounting activities necessary to ensure positive cash flow and maintain the age of accounts receivables at or below the target level.
Analyzes denials and identifies trends that can be broken out to root cause so that effective process improvements can be implemented. Work with ancillary departments to implement process improvements, as appropriate.
Responsible for accurately reviewing adjustments and controlled write-offs. Works effectively with payers and other departments to find solutions and improve processes.
Closely monitors staff activity/results to ensure timely and accurate resolution of problems identified by payers, patients, and other hospitals departments.
Conducts ongoing analysis of the department and employee productivity using available statistical indicators; uses analysis results to detect developmental opportunities. Achieves designated production and quality goals for the unit and maintains expenses within budgetary guidelines for the assigned unit(s).
Maintains regular contact with various third-party payers and/or patients in order to resolve problems which could not be routinely handled by Patient Accounting personnel. Remains cognizant of third-party reimbursement policies in order to expedite payment processing and to ensure internal compliance with changes.
Develops, recommends and administers policies and procedures for PFS area. Participates in the development of policies and procedures for other hospital areas, which may impact patient accounts.
In consultation with the Revenue Cycle Director, develops short-term goals and objectives for areas of responsibility (i.e., collection and billing). Develops plans to accomplish agreed upon goals.
Any other duties as assigned by Woman’s Hospital.
