Manages the day-to-day accounting operations.
Ensure accurate and timely posting of the University’s financial transactions in accordance with

GAAP, FASB

standards, industry best practices, and other applicable compliance requirements.
Assist in the preparation of the University’s financial statements and other internal and external reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the institution’s fiscal activities and values.
Supervise and support the work of Senior Accountants, including review and approval of journal entries and resolution of accounting issues as they arise.
Ability to manage effectively in an on-site and remote environment.
Play a key role in monthly and annual close processes by:
Communicating deadlines to staff.
Ensuring completion of all reconciliations.
Reviewing and approving reconciliations.
Investigating and resolving material variance.
Key participant in the University’s annual 990 tax return filings.
Lead and manage special projects as assigned, ensuring timely and thorough completion.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and recommend changes to enhance workflow and operational efficiency
Assist Senior accountant in documenting processes and procedures for areas of ownership of month end and annual close process.
Collaborate effectively with external auditors during audits and financial reviews.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, plus four to six years of general accounting experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
CPA certification preferred, or actively pursuing certification.
Experience in a non-profit accounting environment preferred.
Auditing background is a plus.
Proficient in computerized account systems, spreadsheets, databases, report writing, and word processing tools.
Strong understanding of accounting systems and their integration into financial reporting.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.
Prior experience managing staff is preferred.
Experience with Banner finance systems is a plus.
