About the Position
The SPG Accounting & Compliance Manager position reports to the Accounting & Compliance Sr Manager, and is responsible for month-end close processes for all current and acquired Broker Management and GL systems(s) within SPG. This role prepares and reviews/approves journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and analysis, and ensures compliance with SPG’s accounting policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee accounting team of 5.
Execute month-end close process and review reports for all Broker Management system(s) and GL system(s) within the accounting center. Demonstrate solid understanding of the balance sheet account reconciliation process; complete accurate and compliant reconciliations in accordance with company requirements. Monitor and report on outstanding / overdue account reconciliations and for timely resolution of reconciling items.
Ensure offsets and supporting source adjustments are identified and cleared prior to deadline.
Consolidate monthly balance sheet analysis for review and signoff with senior Accounting leadership
Complete consolidated Allowance for Doubtful Account reserve analysis
Review reconciliation between Broker Management System and general ledger
Approve staff and senior journal entries in Oracle for accuracy and proper support
Train and develop accounting staff
Serve as lead in with respect to the day-to-day work performed by the team. Experience and Knowledge Requirements
Requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting. Requires a minimum of 5 years team leadership / supervisory experience.
Public company experience strongly preferred.
Ability to motivate, influence and lead others.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills
Advanced Excel skills required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Work effectively under pressure to achieve deadlines
High degree of accuracy with a good eye for detail
Self-motivated and proactive
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and achieve results in a fast-paced and changing environment
Demonstrated abilities to work cross functionally with other teams and explain financial results
Insurance experience a plus
Must have some flexibility of work hours and have the ability to put in extra hours during peak times.
Education Requirements
CPA Designation and related education required.
