Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bank Reconciliation Specialist to join our Finance Department on a temporary 3-month basis, with the potential to transition to a permanent position for the right candidate. This role is responsible for performing accurate and timely reconciliations of various bank accounts, ensuring the integrity of financial records, and supporting the overall financial operations of the municipality.

Key Responsibilities:

Reconcile multiple bank accounts on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy between general ledger balances and bank statements. Investigate and resolve discrepancies, outstanding items, or unusual transactions in a timely manner. Collaborate with other departments to obtain supporting documentation or explanations for transactions. Monitor and maintain records of all banking transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and transfers. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes by providing reconciliation reports and necessary documentation. Prepare journal entries to correct or adjust financial records as needed. Ensure compliance with municipal financial policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Assist auditors with documentation and support during annual financial audits. Perform other accounting and administrative tasks as assigned by the Finance Director or Treasurer.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. 2+ years of experience in bank reconciliation, municipal finance, or accounting. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Proficiency in accounting software (experience with TRIO or MUNIS a plus) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment. Strong communication skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Working Conditions:

Standard office environment, Monday-Thursday schedule. Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods (e.g., fiscal year-end, audits).

Compensation & Duration:

This is a temporary position for 3 months, with the potential to become permanent based on performance and departmental needs. Very competitive hourly wage based on experience.
