Job Description

Position Summary:
Serves as a member of the health care team to make to assist clinicians as they make therapeutic decisions, such as drug and drug product selection, and drug dosing verification for physician/ patient treatment decisions. Position is expected to inform patients and their families of their expected financial responsibility prior to the initiation of therapy.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED. Medical Terminology course or previous medical office experience required.
Experience:
Minimum five-year medical office experience required. Proficiency of the English language required. Ability to speak Spanish preferred. Must have strong organizational and communication skills. Working knowledge of computers. Strong with attention to detail.
Position Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Performs research to retrieve and evaluate the best pharmacotherapeutic information available in biomedical and pharmacoeconomic programs available for patients. Provides education and support to physicians and staff as to patient’s insurance coverage of stated protocols and informs patient of stated benefits of their coverage. If no coverage of the therapy is available under their current plan the Financial Counselor will complete the forms required by the pharmaceutical company to see if the patient is able to secure replacement coverage. The patient may be expected to complete voluminous forms and provide their prior years tax information; the counselor may coordinate the delivery of this information to the pharmaceutical company for resolution. Employee may be expected to write letters to the insurance company and will work closely with the hospital staff for the replacement protocols. Employee will be required to work with interpreters for patients and families. Employee will be expected to attend hospital/office joint meetings for clinical updates and continued medical education. Employee will offer input into protocols for the office as related to financial assistance for its patients.
