General Summary/Overview:
Responsible for providing quality andefficient financial service to patients through the daily management ofassigned tasks. Oversees financial status of patients scheduled to beseen at the Brown University Physician Group. Maintains insuranceinformation for maximum billing reimbursement. Assist patients withbilling questions; one on one in a private area maintaining patientconfidentiality. Performs in accordance with the facility?s policies andprocedures. Follows the facility?s standards for ethical businessconduct. Conducts self as a positive role model and team member.
Participates in facility committees meetings in-services and activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review schedule of upcoming patients 3 days priorto scheduled visit. Flagging patients that will potentially need to bedirected to business representative area. Contact patients on past duebalances when scheduled to be seen at specific site. Counsel patientsand families regarding financial issues with insurance and verifyeligibility. Be available for patients that experience billing problemsprovide appropriate coaching counseling direction and resolution. Assistwith any questions patients may have and call insurance representativeat billing office regarding any issues that deem necessary. Callpatients for collection purposes as a segment of the aged trial balancereport. Maintain insurance information in system ensuring promptreimbursement for claims. Work closely with billing office for transfersre-bills of services and relay findings. Have access to internet forinsurance verification Keep Supervisor promptly and fully informed ofall problems or unusual matters of significance and take promptcorrective action where necessary or suggest alternative courses ofaction that may be taken. Project a favorable image of Brown UniversityHealth to promote its aims and objectives and enhance public recognitionand acceptance of all its areas of endeavor. Perform all duties andresponsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance withestablished company policies to achieve the overall objectives of thisposition. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required orrequested with prior approval from Director of Patient BusinessServices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree or equivalent andapproximately 3 ? 5 years previous third-party liability billingexperience. Experience in a customer focused organization. Workingknowledge of healthcare industry.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of insurance rules/regulation and policies ProfessionalWorking Revenue Cycle experience in either an AR follow up Cash-Opsdenial management or self-pay role Ability to bring tasks to completionin a manner satisfactory Ability to communicate with others effectivelyin a concise manner in order to bring issues effectively to a resolutionAbility to identify billing trends affecting patient balances Ability toevaluate situations and escalate issues appropriately Ability tomultitask and ability to follow through with our patients and contactsAbility to read understand and interpret insurance Explanation ofBenefits Experience with Excel Word and Outlook MediTech requiredOrganizational time management skills Knowledge of 3rd party liabilitybilling and collections;strong interpersonal and communication skillsself-motivated/directed organizational skills; ability to exerciseindependent judgment based upon established policies protocol orpractices; ability to provide and support a vision and direction toBrown University Health patients.
