Authorization Specialist Peace River Cardiovascular Center 4161 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 Job Summary The Prior Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare process by ensuring that patients receive the necessary approvals for medical services and procedures. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can navigate complex insurance requirements and communicate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding practices, and managed care processes. Duties Review and process prior authorization requests from healthcare providers to determine eligibility for services Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits through thorough insurance verification procedures Collaborate with other Cardiology practices, medical facilities and coworkers to gather necessary documentation for authorization requests. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance representatives to facilitate authorization process. Document all interactions and maintain accurate medical records related to billing and prior authorizations. Calling insurance companies as needed to follow up on claims, payments and authorization issues. Stay updated on changes in managed care policies and procedures that may affect prior authorization processes. Qualifications Minimum of 3yrs of medical experience. Cardiology preferred Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance standards. Strong understanding of insurance billing and coding principles Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication, organizational and analytical skills. Proficient in using office software and electronic medical record systems. Experience with Greenway/Intergy is a plus Experience in Cardiology is considered a plus but not mandatory. This role is essential for ensuring that patients receive timely access to necessary healthcare services while adhering to regulatory requirements.
