Prior Authorization Specialist Skin & Laser Center of NJ Ramsey, NJ 07446 Job Summary The Prior Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare process by ensuring that necessary medical services and procedures are approved by insurance providers before they are performed. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and insurance verification processes. The ideal candidate will work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to facilitate timely approvals and enhance patient care. Duties Review and process prior authorization requests for medical services and procedures. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to gather necessary documentation and information. Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for requested services. Utilize knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical coding to accurately complete authorization requests. Maintain organized records of all prior authorization requests and communications. Collaborate with dental offices as needed for dental procedure authorizations. Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, medical terminology, and coding practices. Assist in resolving any issues or denials related to prior authorizations. Requirements Proficient understanding of medical terminology and coding practices (ICD-9, ICD-10). Experience in a dermatologist office. Strong skills in insurance verification processes. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare providers and patients. Familiarity with medical records management is a plus. Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate documentation. This position is essential for ensuring that patients receive the care they need while navigating the complexities of insurance requirements.
