As an Underwriter, you’ll play a key role in driving loan approvals by evaluating and analyzing applicants’ financial health and creditworthiness. You’ll dive into a variety of financial documents, assess risks, and make informed decisions that align with company policies and regulatory standards. What you will do:
Product Information:
Maintain knowledge of all loan products and service offerings to ensure the efficient and comprehensive processing of loan applications.
Loan Evaluation:
Assess loan applications and supporting documentation (such as credit reports, income statements, tax returns, and property appraisals) to determine eligibility.
Risk Assessment:
Analyze the applicant’s financial background, credit history, employment status, and debt-to-income ratio to assess the lending risk.
Decision-Making:
Approve, deny, or suggest changes to loan applications based on internal and bank guidelines and regulatory standards.
Communication:
Interact with loan officers, borrowers, and other financial professionals to gather necessary information and provide updates on the application process.
Compliance and Guidelines:
Ensure all loans comply with regulatory standards, company lending policies, and underwriting guidelines. Stay updated on industry regulations.
Documentation:
Ensure all necessary documentation is accurately processed and filed, including loan approval or denial decisions, and maintain records for audit purposes.
Problem-Solving:
Identify issues that could affect the loan approval process, such as incomplete documents or discrepancies in financial statements, and work with applicants to resolve them.
Customer Service:
Provide guidance to borrowers about the loan process, requirements, and any steps they may need to take to improve their chances of approval.
Record Keeping:
Update Loan Origination system(s) (SalesForce) with complete and accurate loan information/records from bank, customer, and staff interactions.
What you should have:
Strong understanding of financial statements and credit analysis. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in the financial industry. Ability to assess risk and make objective decisions. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency with RV and Marine loan underwriting software and tools. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Previous experience in underwriting, loan processing, or financial services. A positive, results-driven attitude, dedicated to exceeding customer expectations and ensuring top-tier satisfaction.
