We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Underwriting Assistant to support our Builders Risk and Property underwriting team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of new and renewal business, endorsements, and policy servicing. The ideal candidate will have a strong administrative background, excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in commercial property insurance.
Responsibilities:
Assist underwriters in the review, processing, and issuance of builder’s risk and property insurance policies. Collect, organize, and analyze underwriting documentation including applications, loss runs, inspection reports, and construction details. Enter and maintain accurate data in underwriting and policy management systems. Prepare quotes, binders, and policy documents under the direction of underwriters. Communicate with brokers and agents to obtain missing information and clarify submissions. Track and follow up on outstanding underwriting requirements. Support the renewal process by preparing files and documentation for underwriter review. Assist in compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures. Generate reports and maintain underwriting logs as needed. Serve as liaison between the in-house underwriting team and the offshore team of Underwriting Assistants to ensure alignment, consistency, and timely workflow execution.
Qualifications:
1 to 3 years of experience in an insurance support or underwriting assistant role, preferably in builders risk or commercial property. Familiarity with MGA operations and insurance terminology. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and insurance software platforms (e.g., IMS, or similar). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with builders risk, including ground-up construction and renovation projects, or commercial property policies. Knowledge of ISO forms and rating methodologies.
