PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This position supports American National agents, policyholders, and underwriters by applying risk-based analysis to underwrite and service business at a policy and account level. Associate Underwriters are expected to underwrite, and if required process policies in a timely and accurate manner; they are held to established efficiency and quality standards. Advanced duties are assigned based upon experience in the role. This may include but is not limited to large agency assignments with challenging state specific requirements or specialized assignments that require above average knowledge. Have increased level of authority to make decisions to accept and/or reject.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Makes independent decisions regarding rating of policies/accounts and discount eligibility by using applicable rating manuals and written underwriting processes. Makes decisive risk selections decisions within authority limits to approve, refer, or reject on all transactions. Responds to all correspondence including email and telephone inquiries from agents and third parties in a timely manner. Identifies and address submission requirement issues with agents to mitigate policy cancellations and/or non-renewals. Corresponds with various state agencies to update insurance records for American National clients. Presents recommendations for improvements to systems and processes in order to improve efficiency and to streamline the handling of policies/accounts. Researches state specific policies and guidelines in order to address agent inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma. One to two year of experience.

High school diploma. One to two year of experience. Requires ability to effectively communicate with others to exchange information. Must be able to perform a variety of routing within established policies and procedures, and receive detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.
