About the Role We’re seeking a highly analytical Benefits Underwriter with direct Gradient platform experience and strong benefits underwriting coding skills to help us optimize and scale our benefits offerings. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in assessing risk, developing pricing strategies, coding underwriting logic, and helping us create scalable processes across our PEO platform. This is a rare opportunity to shape underwriting systems from the ground up in a high-growth environment. Key Responsibilities Analyze risk and develop underwriting strategies for health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance products within a PEO structure Utilize Gradient to model and configure underwriting rules, products, and pricing parameters Write and maintain underwriting logic and rating formulas using benefits underwriting coding tools Partner with engineering, product, and actuarial teams to improve automation and scalability of benefits underwriting Monitor loss ratios, claims trends, and recommend pricing adjustments or plan design changes Evaluate carrier proposals and contribute to carrier negotiations from an underwriting perspective Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements Help build documentation, workflows, and training materials for internal underwriting operations What We’re Looking For 3+ years of experience in benefits underwriting, ideally at a PEO, insurer, or benefits technology company Hands-on experience using Gradient for benefits product configuration and underwriting Strong skills in coding underwriting logic , preferably in benefits-specific platforms or with experience integrating underwriting rules into SaaS systems Excellent analytical and financial modeling skills Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment and building processes from scratch Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and sales teams
