Job Summary:
A Junior Underwriter in the insurance industry typically handles preliminary risk assessments and application reviews, assisting senior underwriters in evaluating insurance applications and determining premiums and coverage. They gather information, analyze applications, and contribute to the underwriting process. This role is an entry-level position in the underwriting department.
Responsibilities:
Application Review:
Reviewing customer applications for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary documentation is present.
Risk Assessment:
Assessing the level of risk associated with insuring an applicant, often using automated software or guidelines.
Information Gathering:
Obtaining additional information from applicants, agents, or other sources to clarify details and support the underwriting process.
Data Analysis:
Analyzing data from various sources
Premium Calculation:
Assisting in determining appropriate premium costs based on risk factors and company guidelines.
Policy Support:
Assisting with the writing and endorsement of insurance policies.
Database Management:
Updating and maintaining databases related to applications, policies, and client information.
Client Communication:
Responding to client inquiries and resolving issues related to the underwriting process.
Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
Requirements:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Customer service experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
