Seeking 2+ years’ experience underwriting (decisioning, structuring) consumer loans (auto loans, lines of credit) in a fast-paced environment utilizing a manual and automated underwriting system.

Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to assist Atlanta Postal Credit Union to live out our Mission, “To help our members achieve financial success by providing exceptional products and service.” The Consumer Loan Underwriter I is primarily responsible for the underwriting of varying types of consumer loan types.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Adhere to and deliver on APCU Center Parc’s core values: Serve Exceptionally Commit to Better Find the Fun Invest in Integrity Follow the Numbers Go Forth and Conquer Protect with Passion Review submitted loan applications and recommend loan structures against established lending policy and current processes and procedures. Work collaboratively with branch managers, consumer loan operations leadership, consumer loan representatives, and consumer loan processors, to evaluate loan applications, financial documents, credit reports, and other appropriate supporting documentation. Ensure that all necessary documentation and information is available from which to have an accurate and complete view of the loan application; Authenticate documentation as required or as appropriate. Assume responsibility for the structure, term, and provisions of all loan offers and ensure the structure of all loan offers are aligned with the risk profiles established by the credit union. Follow established guidance for debt ratio calculations, collateral evaluations. Follow establish guidance for evaluation of loan applications using automated means and software; adheres to internal policies and procedures related to the use of risk-based scoring models. Ensure accuracy and completeness at every step of underwriting process; Adhere to all established lending policies, procedures, and all established guidance related to advance, LTV, pricing, and credit requirements. Maintains APCU Center Parc’s standards of member service; Complete all member interactions in a professional and timely manner. Adhere to all provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Equal Credit Opportunity act; As required, issue adverse impact letters and other correspondence required by regulation. As applicable, adhere to all provisions and issue all associated disclosures as required by the Truth in Lending act and RESPA. Recognize and escalate potential fraudulent applications or suspicious loan requests to the department manager. Ensure that all underwriting activities comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Demonstrate prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills to consistently deliver timely decisions, promptly respond to inquiries, and timeliness in relevant correspondence. Demonstrate excellent problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to use data, in the evaluation of loan applications and the credit decisioning results. Effectively use written and oral communication skills in daily correspondence and completion of tasks. Maintain credibility and positive working relationships as required for the position. Consistently communicate a positive and clear message around the credit union’s strategic goals, objectives, and delivery of quality services to members. Maintain up to date knowledge of all lending products, industry or market specific trends, and other knowledge needed to successfully underwrite varying types of consumer loans. Comply with all aspects of BSA/AML and OFAC regulations as they relate to this position; Ensures that all departmental activities are in alignment with internal policies, procedures, legal standards, and regulatory requirements. Comply with all aspects of Fannie Mae, FCRA, RESPA, TILA, Req Z, ECOA and other regulations and guidelines as they may apply or relate to this position and the underwriting of consumer loans. This is an individual contributor role and has no direct reports.

REQUIRED

Education and/or

Experience:

Requires a level of knowledge normally gained with a high school diploma or equivalent 3 years relevant work experience structuring, reviewing, or processing loans in a banking, financial services, or a credit union environment Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and the use of Symitar and Meridian Link

PREFFERED

Education and/or

Experience:

An associate’s degree in business management, business Administration, or related field of study or 2 years of additional specific underwriting work experience in lieu of degree 3 years specific experience underwriting loans in a credit union Prior work experience using automated scoring or software-based credit evaluation applications. Prior work experience using Point Predictive.

Physical Job Requirements:

Subject to business needs the position may require non-standard work hours (occasional evenings and/or occasional weekends) and the ability to lift and carry weights of 5 to 20 pounds. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, or stoop as needed and the ability to interact with people in writing, over the phone, and in person as required.
